Five Minute Poetry

Here’s a simple way of coming up with new poetry material; this exercise also broadens your vocabulary and deepens your use of it:

Look up a new word (use a website like Word Think or any Word of the Day sites and apps) and learn it, understand it. Think of how you can use it – is there an emotion you can put to it? Can you put a moment that you’ve ever experienced to this word? If it’s a noun, where would it be placed?

Gather your thoughts on this word and write a poem about it, expressing it or relating to it or use this word as the title.

Thank you! I hadn’t been able to write a poem in over a month and your prompt helped me this morning. I am so grateful and plan to use this whenever I get stuck again.
